Orchids

This was an image that my nephew wanted me to paint for his girlfriend for a Christmas present. She had taken the original photo, which later was published. I hope she liked it.

This little flower was growing outside my bedroom window in the neighbors yard. Our neighbor has had their house under construction for 3 years now. No one there. This poor flower has grown despite the neglect. It was the one and only flower in the yard. The weeds are doing fine!

Self Portrait

Our teacher Don Byrd, let anyone in class that wanted to, do a self portrait. It was real interesting. It is amazing how you can paint someone else, and not be able to do yourself. At least with me. There were so many things that contributed to my "look" that I found hard to reconigize when trying to paint. I was constantly asking my friends, what am I missing. Thankfully they told me the truth. It really is a great learning tool doing a self portrait. There are probably more things that I could do to this painting, but cannot look at myself anymore!

"For You" Close-up

For You

Peppermill

This was hard to get the correct color of the painting in the photograph. Dark colors don't photograph well. Probably because I don't know what I am doing. It is still not correct, but is as close as I can get. This subject was just an experiment. I wanted to see if I could get the look of the clear plexiglass. My challenge was getting the proportions to be even on each side and not look crooked.

First Place- Still Life

On 3-2-2008 A couple of friends and I entered the Traditional Artists Guild of Paramount art show. Debbie Marr a great professional artist here in San Pedro was the Judge. Entering the show was to be a learning experience, and just for the fun of it. To our surprise we won First Place in our catagories. Mine being Still Life, and my friend Jennifer won First Place in Floral. My other friend Shobha received an Honorable Mention. Needless to say we were giddy with pride!

Moons & Stars

I found this plant on a recent walk. It struck me as strange because of the orange orbs and the purple flowers.

Single Rose

This was an experiment. I used aging and cracking varnish in order to make the painting look older.

This was my first attempt at a portrait. I copied it from a photo of a painting that I found years ago. I do not remember the artist.

School Path

This was my first attempt at paint on location. I ended up using a lot of "artistic license". It doesn't look anythink like the location. Still not sure if I like this one or not.

Morning Glory

This morning glory has been growing in my backyard. I love the blue color. I just wish this plant wasn't so invasive.

Angelina

I love this painting because it shows the loss of her front teeth. When asked if she would like to have all of her teeth painted in place, her answer was, "No.
That is how I am."
